Drum cats are just amazing with their mind
blowing performances. This is what I heard about them and their performance. It
was truly a matter of joy for me when I got an offer from the KTO to watch the
drum cat for free.. Yes the cats were
awesome with all their moves… J
The theater was nice wit good sitting
arrangements. There are couples of things worth mention about this performance.
The main thing is its location which easily accessible to everyone, being
located in the heart of Seoul.
The MyungBu art hall is at walking distance from Myeongdong, City
hall and Dongdaemun. It is well close to
the subway stations and bus stop. The facilities provided in theater are
another thing which must be appreciated. Globally-recognized Korean performance,
‘Drum Cat’ whips people into a frenzy of rhythm and fun. Drum Cat was created
in 2003 and is an all-female percussion group .2008 was landmark year for Drum
Cat, as the group received both the ‘2008 Edinburgh Festival Herald Angel’
award and the ‘2008 Scotland Cavalcade Best Unit’ award, the first awards even
won by a Korean team at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I was a bit crazy for this performance because
all this information I collected before I went to watch this performance.
It was June 29, 2013 when I had a chance to watch this amazing performance with my wife as a guest. The start of the performance was awesome
and trilling as the performer’s girls introduce their role with their instruments
showing their skills. They were just superb with their cit cat. One thing very
much disturbing was the loud sound of the drums. It was becoming unbearable
with the passage of time. After 50 minutes I was just completely bored and
wanna escape because of the sound. The other thing was the lightening for the
stage which was quite pungent to eyes and disturbing. I think the lightening
should be improved or the directions can be changed towards the roof to get rid
of the troublesome.
I heard that the performance of Drum Cat
comprises of 5 themes: Sexy, Speedy, Funny, Powerful and Wild. However I was
unable to differentiate among all these performances. It might be because of
the fast and furious performance of the cats. There was not a proper
distinction among all the shows of the performers. Like all the other performances of Korea the
dram cat also involved the audience as they picked randomly two persons and
asked them to ring the whistle and walk in the hall. Meanwhile all the
performers also tried to get the attention of the audience. I must say it was not
a complete interactive way to spread their message and promote the event. They
should ask them on how to beat a drum and offer some skills.
There were some very attractive skills shown
by the performers, no doubt they were very competent with the sticks in their
hands. Their body movements were perfect. Their combination was just amazing and
worth watching. It seemed like a far cry from traditional drumming, the
performance focuses on a modernization of rhythm: combining and reinventing
rock, jazz, techno and Latin rhythms into a unique blend of sound.
At the end of performance they introduce
the team members at get appreciation from the audience. Overall it was a nice
show which finally ended with a smile on every face. Their was a picture
section with the performers and after that a nice weather was waiting for us
outside the theater. Thanks to KTO for providing the opportunity to explore the
drum cat …. J
