Gwangju celadon museum

The Gangjin area has long been known for its blue celadon production, made possible by advanced sea transportation as well as the right ingredients and conditions for celadon production such as local clay, fuel, water, and a favorable climate. The Gangjin Celadon Festival has gained acclaim among visitors for showcasing the excellence and uniqueness of Goryeo celadon.

“Gwangju celadon museum”. Gangjin-gun (강진군), in Jeollanam-do, is home to Goryeo Celadon (고려청자). It was produced in the area from the 9th to the 14th centuries. Gangjin Celadon Museum is the only Goryeo Celadon museum in Korea which contains a variety of pieces illustrating the shift Korean celadon had made during this period.

I was quite crazy to make a pottery as this was my second chance and that my first chance was a failure…… anyhow that was an amazing opportunity. Before making our own pottery it was nice to see the past and present of Korean celadon.

We were properly guided on how to make polish to decorate the celadon. During the workshop visit we had a chance to see how the artist convert simply clay into worthy shapes and convert them to artistic pieces. In the next part of the visit we had a chance to make our own poetry and that was really loveable and they promised that they will send our pottery back to us. We have a group photo and individually every team photo at this moment with attractive poses………………

It is a themed museum built in the production site of Goryeo celadon, and their artifacts include 175 complete products of Goryeo celadon and more than 30,000 pieces of celadon collected from the sites of celadon kilns.

It is a large-scale tea plantation site spread along the smooth hill at the skirt of Wolchulsan (Mt.) known as the Little Geumgang (another famous mountainin Korea) of southern province.

Dalmaji Village is located in Gangjin where the famous Korea's celadon was crafted. Korean celadon is one of the most important cultural assets representing Korea's medieval art. You can experience Korea’s typical small village at the southern tip where green tea plantation creates exotic view, all colors of flowers are blooming and people are generous.
