This article is written for the promotion of Incheon Asian Games 2014. Here are the links for the actual articles.

Korean dancers are some of the best in the world and a trip to Korea is a great opportunity to enjoy some of these jaw-dropping, gravity-defining performances. Korea has a leading hyllu culture with famous K pop performances which are eminent all around the world. Besides the latest modern performing arts, performances of Korean traditional music and dance still take place regularly and provide the perfect introduction to Korea’s rich cultural heritage. Some Korean shows are a unique blend of the traditional and modern shows which have a lot of magnetisms for those who can’t decide whether to go for the traditional performance or modern shows. JUMP mixes martial arts with slapstick comedy, whilst NANTA takes the traditional percussion rhythms over Samulnori and places them in a modern-day kitchen. These days Korean shows are gaining international acclaim, performing on Broadway, London’s West End, and around the world. Here we go with the 10 nonverbal shows that may be a source of entertainment for you in Korea.
“Nanta” debuted in October 1997, and has gone on to become the most famous show in Korea, generating the largest audience figures in the country’s history. Nanta landscapes the garak (rhythms) of Samulnori (traditional Korean percussion quartet). The performance introduces five characters: a manager, head chef, a female chef, the sexy guy, and the manager’s nephew.  These five characters constantly beat rhythms on pots, pans and all kinds of kitchen implements, as they race against time to prepare food for a wedding banquet. The audience even gets to join in the fun at this exciting show, which has been performed on Broadway and toured around America and the rest of the world. It a performance valued equally by the Koreans and foreigners.
Ever since first hit the stage in July 2003, Jump has been incredibly popular in Korea. It also has had remarkable international success. In 2005 and 2006 it took the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by storm, and then went on to tour around the world, ending up on London’s West End and New York’s off-Broadway, proving that this musical comedy has universal appeal. The musical JUMP is a non–verbal performance that is based on the traditional movements of taekwondo, a Korean form of martial arts. This innovative show incorporates many of Asia’s martial arts, including Korea's Taekwondo and Taekkyeon, as it tells the story of a family of martial arts specialists who have to defend their house from robbers. As JUMP continues to present endless comic episodes, you definitely won’t feel bored. Instead you may feel like you’re watching a real live TV sitcom drama. The non-verbal musical is also open to audiences of all ages from various countries. The musical starts its opening scene by selecting a martial arts master among the audience. If you go without any prior expectations, each performance will be a whole new feeling. The audiences can double their enjoyment during the performance, hoping to be selected as a martial arts master.
The <Drawing Show> is the first performance of its kind in Korea. This unique show combines art with live performances, as the actors complete amazing works of art on stage. Throughout the 90-minute show, over 10 paintings are created on stage, as well as clowning and dance routines. The show features a variety of art techniques and materials, including finger painting, india ink marbling, and on one occasion banana peels are innovatively used to create a drawing of a flower, which is then given to a member of the audience. In one of the final scenes, the artist David’s famous painting of Napoleon is produced in only six minutes on a 2-meter-high canvas. This, and even more spectacular works of art make the Drawing Show a must see event.

Kimchitae kwon do, and now, B-Boying, are what come to mind when you think of Korea, according to R-16 host MC Go. But while that might be a stretch, the former hip-hop dancer’s claim isn’t as groundless as it may initially sound. It is a marathon display of mind-bending, joint-popping and gravity-defying contortions. You may feel wonder by watching the breathtaking skills of the B-Boys.B-Boy KOREA Theater, Jeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul presents some of the splendid performances of the B-Boys. This show is a mixture of music, dance enchanted with the beauty of martial arts. In recent years, Korea has emerged as a B-Boy powerhouse in the global acrobatic hip-hop dance scene, and the 2011 R-16 World B-Boy Masters Championship it hosted every year is considered one of the world’s top five such events. Persons of all ages and languages can enjoy B-Boy KOREA since it uses dance, music, and mime as a universal language. It is a great chance to witness the wondrous skills of the talented B-boys.
Since its premiere in 2007, Karma has been on a world tour of 12 different countries and has been invited to a number of international festivals as an opening or closing performance. This world renowned production is a cross-over non-verbal performance featuring the perfect marriage between dynamic oriental martial arts and beautiful Korean traditional dance. The show is about love, passion, agony, and the avarice of gods: the god of the Sun who rules the universe; the goddess of the Moon, his beloved other half; the god of the North, the arch enemy who wants to win the heart of the goddess of the Moon. Throughout the performance, you will enjoy the magical stage work in perfect harmony with spectacular music.
World Beat VINARI is a musical performance by the fusion gugak (Korean traditional music) group “Dulsori.” it has introduced Korean traditional sound and rhythm to audiences in 53 countries worldwide. World Beat Vinary performance is awesome. It features upbeat and exhilarating Korean rhythms created by a combination of traditional string and percussion instruments, Korean opera, and modern interpretations of folk songs. The music is really amazing. Moreover the traditional village of Korean Society is attractive.

Drum cats performance is offered in MyungBu art hall which is at walking distance from Myeongdong, City hall and Dongdaemun.  It is well close to the subway stations and bus stop. Globally-recognized Korean performance, ‘Drum Cat’ whips people into a frenzy of rhythm and fun. Drum Cat was created in 2003 and is an all-female percussion group .2008 was landmark year for Drum Cat, as the group received both the ‘2008 Edinburgh Festival Herald Angel’ award and the ‘2008 Scotland Cavalcade Best Unit’ award, the first awards even won by a Korean team at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  It is a bit crazy performance beautified by the drum beats of some highly energetic girls. At a moment it feels like you are a part of those crazy cats.
The “Midday Dance Fantasy” has been created to provide an easy and accessible form of Korean dance for audiences in Korea and overseas. Spoken commentary is included to help audiences understand Korean dance. The program includes both traditional dances like “Buchaechum” and “Hallyangmu” and Korean dances adapted to contemporary times, such as new works choreographed by the National Dance Company of Korea. Colorful costumes and diverse props add to the visual spectacle. The performance is divided into two parts the first is the dance performance dedicated to the sky, and the second, to the earth. The show is subtitled into English and that is good enough to appreciate the colorful and vibrant Korean cultural. Small Dum dance: Sogo Chun has been developed in people’s daily life and often played to lift the spirits during farmer’s group labor or a holiday. The paired dance performances are remarkable with background music. They perform with instruments like Daego, Seugjeongu and that is worth watching. The appearance of the winners from Seoul International Dance Competitions adds more charm to the Korean midday dance show.

Traditional Korean band Puri (lead by the artistic director of the National Orchestra of Korea, Won Il) celebrating their twentieth anniversary with this special performances. Puri is a group of extraordinarily talented guys that perform traditional Korean music. It is remarkable to watch their performance with their ultimate skillful way in the KB Haneul Youth. The youth theater is delightful with nice seating arrangements and truly facilitated with many things. The PURI group uses many instruments including the traditional and modern electronic music, a piano, drum, guitars, and various other instruments in their performance.  It is a blended performance of modern and traditional music with an implausible experience.
Bibap is the first performance combining eating and entertainment. There aren’t many shows in the world that use food as the subject. In the musical Bibap, making of the traditional Korean dish bibimbap becomes the main theme and is transformed into a non-verbal performance perfect for everyone taste. Bibap proved global potential through its success at Edinburgh Festival in 2010, forecasting the new market for entertainment. Bibap premiered in Korea in May 2011, and has made itself known to the world as a refreshingly original cultural show. The sounds of washing, cutting, frying and eating food are mixed with B-boy dance, acrobatics, martial arts and other dynamic dances, making up the different ingredients of this delicious dish!

One thing I like the most about Korea is that, they have made every performance so interesting that they can fascinate the visitors and in captured their hearts with charm and temptations. All these performances will be a source of recreation and real gratification for the visitors on the commencement of Incheon Asian Games 2014.

Asian Games played at my Country

This article is written for the promotion of the 17th Incheon Asian Games 2014. Here is a link for the website http://blog.incheon2014ag.com/traditional-sports-iagcrew2/

Pakistan is very is the land of games. Its soil has given birth to some of the popular sportsmen and women who have created history in different sports. People of Pakistan love games and thus different traditional, national and international sports are played in Pakistan. The National teams of Pakistan play and participate different events of sports around the globe. Although hockey is the national sport of Pakistan and cricket is by far the most popular one; there are a number of sports in which Pakistan has achieved most success. They are very popular in country. Here is the introduction of some of those games.
Polo
Polo is arguably the oldest recorded team sport in known history, with the first matches being played in Persia over 2500 years ago. This game was adopted as the most noble of pastimes by the Kings and Emperors, Shahs and Sultans, Khans and Caliphs of the ancient Persians, Arabs, Mughals, Mongols and Chinese. It was for this reason it became known across the lands as "the game of kings".

Pakistan is the only country in the world, with the highest Polo Ground at Shandur, Chitral. Polo is a team sport played outdoors on horseback in which the objective is to score goals against an opposing team. Riders score by driving a white wooden or plastic ball into the opposing team's goal using a long-handled mallet. Goals are only valid if the scoring rider is mounted. The traditional sport of polo is played outdoors, and each polo team consists of four riders and their mounts.
Squash
Pakistan has achieved most success is squash. Pakistan dominated squash like no other country in the world, the domination lasting for the best part of 5 decades. Pakistan amassed over 30 British Open titles, 14 World Open titles and a lot more PSA professional titles.
The interesting thing is that a family in Pakistan and from my home town ruled the games of Squash for more than 40 years. The names of such great maestros as Hashim Khan who is the reall hero of squash around the globe, his brother Azam Khan, cousin Roshan Khan, son Sharif Khan, nephew Mohibullah, Qamar Zaman, Jahangir Khan (son of Roshan Khan) and Jansher Khan, have adorned the Squash firmament during the last forty-odd years. This galaxy has kept the squash horizon alight with their achievements over the years.
Kabaddi
Kabaddi is an indigenous sport, which is played in all parts of Pakistan, especially rural areas it is one of the most attractive games for the people of all ages. It is also widespread sport of the Sub-Continent and in many parts of India and Bangladesh, Kabaddi is played with equal zeal and enthusiasm. Its forms and styles vary from region to region. Asian-style Kabaddi has been recognized by the South-East Asian countries.
Kabaddi is a team game. Two teams, each having 7 in court players, compete with each other to get higher scores.  The raider starts from the centerline uttering aloud, “Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi…” without any break. He has to run from one side to the other side of the opponent’s court trying to touch either with his hand or leg an opponent. The opponents on the other hand try to catch him before he gets back to the center line and thence to his court. If the raider is caught and loses his chanting breath “…Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Ka…” he is considered out. The team with maximum points is declares the winner.

Snooker
Snooker is a cue sports that is typically played on a table covered with a green cloth or baize , with pockets  situated in each of the four corners and a further two, commonly referred to as the middle, or side pockets. It is played using a cue and 22 snooker balls, one white cue ball, 15 red balls worth one point each, and six balls of different colors: yellow (2 points), green (3), brown (4), blue (5), pink (6) and black (7). A player (or team) wins a frame (individual game) of snooker by scoring more points than the opponent(s), using the cue ball to pot the red and colored balls. A player receives additional points if the opponent commits a foul or fails to escape from snooker. A player wins a match when a certain number of frames have been won.
Snooker is the most played game in Pakistan; practically every street in even the remotest of areas has a club. It is one of the cheapest games, and every one can play and fulfill their thirst of playing snooker. This is the best game which be played alone. Technically there is a lot of joy in it; you have to beat your opponent by yourself whereas in cricket and hockey you have to rely on your teammates. Pakistan has recently defeated Iran in the World Amateur Snooker Championship. Before that Pakistan has won the world Amateur Snooker Championship two times, which has brought attention of the youth towards this game. Despite facing many issues hampering the true potential of the game, Pakistan is continuously striving to move forward by participating in international tournaments as well as hosting tournaments at home.

It is a bad news for the snooker lovers that it has been dropped from the Incheon International games 2014 due to financial constraints.

This article is written for the promotion of Incheon Asians Games 2014. Here is a link for the apublished article.
 http://blog.incheon2014ag.com/incheon-cricket-cup/

Incheon cricket Association is organizing cricket tournament for the cricket lovers every year to promote the cricket game in Korea since 2011. This year also the ICA organized a magnificent tournament for the internationals in which 08 teams with different nations participated with great zeal. Incheon Eagles, Anzik Tigers, Arrirang Fighters, Seoul Exiles, Broughton’s11, Pacific Storms, Hanyang Strikers and 11K were selected to take part in the ICA tournament 2013. Most of the players were from Pakistan, India, Srilanka, England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Every Sunday two matches were played from August to October, 2013. On 29 September, 2013 the final match was played between Incheon Eagles which was comprised of Pakistani players and Broughton’s 11 which was comprised of Srilankans. It was a tough contest between the defending Incheon eagles and the unbeatable Broughton’s. After a tough match Broughtons 11 defeated Incheon eagles and stood 1st and unbeatable throughout the tournament. Sunday 20th October was the distribution ceremony day for the winning, runner up and 3rd position holders. At this moment a friendly match was played between the Korean national team and Incheon eagles.
I along with Shahid Gil, Omer Salman and Rashid were the officials for this match.  It was a nice Sunny day and the conditions were perfect for the cricket match. The cool breeze with sunshine and the colorful dresses of players made the scenery worth watching. Both the teams were excited to play this friendly match. It was believed that Korean national team would depend on their bowling as they have a nice attack and fascinating spin bowling while the Incheon eagles have both amazing batting and bowling. Captains of both the teams shake hands and the toss was executed. Korean national team won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Khalid and Asif Iqbal opened the account for the Incheon eagles. Asif who is considered as a strong hitter of the new bowel was amazing throughout the tournament. Khalid was struggling at the other end, however they provided a remarkable start to their team. Gyeongstak was the fast bowler from Korea who was in nice form since his visit to India and is considered as the strength of Korean team. The batsmen of Incheon eagles did very well. They played fabulous stroke all around the ground. Khalid leads the score with an average of more than 8 per over, while Asif provide him a good stay at the other end of the wicket. The score was 76 in 07 overs when Teakwan was brought into the bowling and he got the wicket of Khalid who was trying to pull the bowl out of the boundary. This was an outstanding delivery from left handed bowler who took the first wicket of Incheon eagles. It was like the first drop of rain because Incheon eagles were really struggling after the first break up and their wickets falls down in a quick manner one after the other. The Taekwan trapped Asif in his next over with a superb bouncer, leading an edge form his bat into the gloves of keeper. Shahzad was the next batsman clean bowled by Taekwan with a tremendous Yorker. At that moment the score of Incheon eagles was 95 and it seemed they would hardly cross the 120 runs mark because the captian of the Incheon eagles was cought behind by after a remarkable delivery from Jiwon he made 13 runs. The Korean National team was on fire they did a great come back, as it was supposed at a time that the Incheon eagles will easily make 200 plus , however they showed  great skills of cricket with the outstanding bowling and fielding. Mudassar and altaf took the score to 110 in 16 overs, when altaf was run out. One thing was surprising about the Korean National Teams that they had made a great success in improvement their fielding. Naeem, Aamir and Mohsin also went back after striking spell by Taekwan and Jiwan without making a marked increase in score. The Korean National Team restricts Incheon Eagles to 122 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. This was a great success of the Korean national team.  The best bowling figures for Korean national team were from Taekwan who took 5 wickets in 4 over giving 7 runs and Jiwan who caught 2 wickets after giving 14 runs in 4 over. The most successful batsmen’s of the Incheon Eagles were their openers Khalid who scored 42 runs and Asif Iqbal who played an outstanding knock of fast 28 runs.
There was a lunch break for the officials and players after the end of the Incheon eagles batting. Pakistani food including chicken Biryani and kebab were offered to all the players and officials. A large number of school students were invited to watch the cricket match between Korean national team and Incheon Eagles to develop their interest in the game of cricket. Lunch was also offered to the kids who really enjoyed the kebab.
After the break the Korean national team bating was started. It seemed to be a tough target as the Incheon Eagles have a great side of bowling having some speed stars like Mudassar, Altaf, Aamir and Shahid. On the other hand Korean batsmen’s who are still in the learning process have accepted this as challenge. Their opening pair of Korean national team Suin and Ihewan took a very nice start in a much confidential way. They were very careful and didn’t play unnecessary shorts. They were vigilant in making selection of strokes. The captain of Incheon eagles made some quick changes in their bowling rounds as they have a number of bowlers to test. The opening partnership of Korean national team was broken by altaf in the seventh over troubling the rhythm of the Korean top order having 40 runs on the score board. The next wicket gone was the opener Ilhawn who finished his account with 22 runs. After the fall of two wickets the Korean batsmen’s could not survive and their wickets fell down on regular basis as the altaf , naeem and mudassar bowled exceptionally well. Soochan tried to give a hop to his team with Jiwan but Naeem bowled Jiwan with a remarkable delivery. He was the most successful batsman from the Korean national team by scoring 33 runs after facing 32 deliveries with a very good strike rate of 101. After the collapse of the top order bating line up the Incheon eagles bowlers windup the Korean national team easily. The match went to a crucial level in the final overs when the Korean national team needed only 6 runs to win and that moment was a breathtaking for both the teams; however the quick loss of wickets brought damage to Korean national team and the Incheon eagles won the match by 6 runs. Korean national team had still 2 wickets to bat but because of the end of 20 overs well before they chased the target.  Over all it was a fantastic match of cricket, loss or win is the part of game but players of both the teams won the hearts of audiences with their spectacular moves specially the fielding of Korean team and batting and bowling of Incheon eagles was praised by everyone.
Closing ceremony of the Incheon Cricket Cup tournament 2013 was held just after the match to distribute trophy and cash prizes among the winner, runner up teams and the outstanding players of the tournament. The chief guest of the ceremony was the honorable mayor of Incheon city. In his speech he mentioned that it was a great effort from the Incheon cricket Association by gathering such a large number of people and introducing and promoting cricket in the region. He showed his gratitude to the entire foreigners and the Korean National team players for attending this great event.  He thanked the school organizers and the children who came all the way to watch this cricket match. He said we are trying our best to make the Incheon Asian Games 2014 worth memorable.
The best batsman award was presented to Hammad Ullah of Hanyang Strikers while the best bowler award was handed over to Shahid from Incheon Eagles with 200,000 Won cash prize.  The First Position trophy along with 2000000 Won was received by the Caption of Broughtons from Srilanka. The runner up trophy was received by the Captain of Incheon Eagles, with 10, 00,000 Won. The 3rd position holders, Hanyang Strikers received 500000 Korean won.
There were souvenirs for all the participants of the closing in the form of cricket bat. The tournament was closed officially by the remarks of the Incheon Cricket Association president with the hope that next year this tournament will be arranged with more participation from the cricket lovers.

Part of Nature [Buzz Korea]

Saturday: Nov 30, 2013
With Gullalaie Khan
National theater of Korea
Time: 4:00 PM

It was my third time to visit, “National Theater of Korea” after watching PURI and Midday Korean Dance show at various stages of National Theater. This time I was here to watch the Part of Nature”. Thanks to Korea Tourism Organization for all these opportunities.

A traditional orchestral performance is set to release the sounds of nature as replicated by traditional wind and stringed instruments at a new stage of National Theater of Korea. I was along with Gullalaie Khan, a best companion ever.  To me, “Part of Nature” was a creative musical piece which realizes the human beings as being part of nature and attempts to explore the relationship between humans and nature. The composer of Part of nature, Chung Il-yeon, a Korean-German musician divided the performance into six categories which includes the Birth of Tones, Breath, Hands, Heart, Name and Spirit. Every part/ Kind of this performance was a master piece at its own. Three of the above mentioned performances were presented that night.
pyeon-gyeong, a traditional Korean lithophone. It was followed by the third movement, “Hands,” which was composed as a concerto for a gayageum and a geomungo. The last movement performed was, “Spirit,” in which four-member samulnori troupe of traditional percussionists draw gasps of excitement from the crowd. They introduced the audience to the distinctive rhythms of the “Korean spirit,”
The prelude, “Birth of Tones,” was presented with stringed and wind instruments along with a wide variety of sounds created by the
Alongside this performance, two pieces of arts were presented. One of which was Kim’s “Back to Heaven” which described the mental conflict, such as sorrow, anxiety or fear, that is felt by all human beings, with sounds generated by both stringed and wind instruments. The second was “Flow and Flow” which allow listeners to feel the melodies flowing like water from the musicians’ tools.

The showJ
take around 100 minutes every moment of which was full of thrill, emotions and feel of nature through music. Over all it was a master piece of show and can truly be called as the “The part of Nature”. Thanks to KTO for providing the opportunity..

Cricket Craze in Korea

This blog is written for the promotion of Incheon Asian Games 2014. Here is the IAG website link
http://blog.incheon2014ag.com/cricket/

Cricket is a famous game of Asia and for some countries like Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka. The game is a matter of doing or dying when they are standing against one another. People of Pakistan and India just want to see their players in the victory stand and they don’t agree on something less than that. These kinds of matches decide a level of respect and honor for the players of Indo-Pak. If they perform well they are heroes otherwise common people of both the nations are quite crazy in making decisions against the losers. Recently this fever is not only restricted to the Asian countries like Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka but Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Malaysia, UAE and Korea are now a part. Cricket can be said that it is not only a game but a source of promoting peace, love and friendship in the region.

The game of cricket has a known history spanning from the 16th century to date. The origin of cricket is England and it was played in different eras. However it was considered a long game in its test cricket format for long times especially once it ended in draw even after 5 days. A lot of regulations and protocols were made to the game of cricket in the 20th century by the international counseling body, ICC(International Cricket Council), to make more interesting and joyful for the viewers. And these attempts were helpful to make cricket acceptable in the fast life of 20th and 21th centuries by introducing the cricket format like one day matches, T20 matches and super sixes. Moreover the rules and regulation like use of different color balls, overs restrictions, free hit, third umpire, day & night matches made it a challenging and fascinating game not only for the players but for the viewers also. The commencement of triangular series, Champions trophy, ashes series and Asia cup made it a full time game of choice for the viewers around the globe. Besides the Asian nations, countries like Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Zimbabwe, West Indies, Ireland, Canada, Kenya, Netherland, Scotland and Namibia have already got a status of ICC playing countries. Also there are 36 more countries that have cricket associations in their states to promote cricket in their regions. Now it has been added into the Asian games officially for the first time ever in the 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014. It is expected to be a great occasion in the history of cricket and the Asian lovers of cricket will have opportunity to watch the players and teams of their choice for the first time ever in South Korea.
Cricket is played in different formats however the most important and difficult format is the test match which is played for a maximum of 5 days and both teams are given a chance to bowl and bat twice. This is the most skillful type of cricket game and a big stamina and abilities are required to play this kind of games. Only few countries are playing this sort of game because ICC has some specific rules and regulations for that. Another format of Cricket is One day games which is the most fascinating and adroit format of cricket after test matches. In this case every team has to play 50 overs against other team with certain instructions, restrictions and rules. Umpires are there the conduct the games in terms of the rules and regulations of ICC and in a friendly environment. ICC World cup is played in this format after every 4 years among the ICC ranked countries and it has twisted millions of spectators around the globe. Another format of cricket is the twenty 20 in which every team has to play for 20 overs (20 x 6 balls). This kind of cricket is very exciting and less time consuming. This is a worth watching format because players from both teams have to show their abilities and skills in just 20 overs. There are some more formats as well like the super sixes and double wicket matches which have not yet gained international status. Cricket in 2014 Incheon Asian games will be played in twenty 20 format and it will offer a great fun.
The hosting country of 2014 Asian Games, South Korea has developed a very good national cricket team and they are improving every day. I played three times against them in Twenty 20 hard ball games and found them with lots of improvements every time. KCA(Korea Cricket Association) and Incheon Cricket Association are also playing a great role to promote high level and professional cricket in Korea. Every year a tournament is arranged by KISSA (Korea International Students Association) to promote cricket in Korea. Students from all the cricket playing countries are invited to participate and show their skills of playing cricket. No only this but cricket is taught in schools and for this purpose people of Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka are always requested and hired to coach the Youngers. This kind of coaching has come up with great result because cricket is a new game in Korea and the children of school age have great talent to learn new things.

It is believed that the 2014 Incheon Asian Games will bring some new memories in the history of cricket. Especially cricket in Korea will be promoted and the dream of peace and friendship among the Asian countries will be given a true shape of implementation through sports.

Pakistan Community Korea A sign of KOPAK friendship

This Article is written for the promotion of IAG 2014. Here is the link for article.
 http://blog.incheon2014ag.com/home-away-from-home-2/

Life is always difficult abroad especially when you have different language, culture, traditions and norms. Meanwhile it becomes very hard if you have no attractions get together and sufficient opportunities to enjoy the way you want. Korea is somehow different country from this respect. There are a number of opportunities for the internationals to relish the new cultures, traditions and ways of life and at the same time introducing their own culture, foods, and traditions to other communities. Somehow you don’t feel you are abroad because of the attractions around you.

Korea is growing as a big investor on foreigners and is getting a status of most favorite country for the tourists. Last year more than 10 million tourists visit Korea, which is a big number ever. It is because of the respect, love and acceptability for all the cultures, regions, traditions and people of different mindset. Korea has made swift advancement by promoting their culture industry and communication strategies and it is considered a hub for international community. They offer many opportunities according to their interest to each and every nation and that is why everyone is eager to be part of all those activities.

Like all the other communities my adored Pakistan has also a large number of people residing in Korea, attaining their goals and endorsing the liaison of both the nations. According to 2009 Survey by the Korean government there are more than 10,000 Pakistani in Korea and according to latest report this number has amplified to 15,000 up to date. This digit could be considered as a high number of foreigners living in Korea from a nation. Pakistan Community in Korea can be divided into three main categories which are the Pakistan Business Association, the workers community and the Pakistan Student Association. All these bodies are joined in Pakistan Community Korea which works under the leadership of Pakistan Embassy in Korea. All these forums are highly motivated to bring both the nations more closely through sharing trade, education and man power.

Amongst all the most proficient and dynamic is the Pakistan Students Association. PSA was formed in 2007 to address the common issues of students in Korea.  Pakistan Students Association (PSAK) provides a single platform to all Pakistani students in South Korea and their main goals are to promote friendship and unity among Pakistani students in Korea. To share the diverse culture of Pakistan with the Korean and International communities and to promote love and peace in this region of the world are other goals of the Pakistan Student Association. PSAK is a symbol of Pakistani culture in Korea. You may be surprised to found the members of PSAK attending all the events, festivals and cultural gatherings all around the Korea representing the green flag. The PSAK has introduced” HINA Culture” in Korea which is highly appreciated by the International community and Korean girls. Recently PSAK presented Pakistan in Itaewon global festival, Chagnwon festival, gangwando festival, Gwangju cultural festival, Jinju cultural festival and many more.

It is the PSAK who has developed collaborations with many Korean and international Organizations in their common fields of interests. The volunteer wing of the PSAK regularly visits the orphanage centers and old houses to help the needy ones and promote the philosophy of peace love and respect for everyone. They also contribute in various volunteering works in Korea which includes, collecting donations for health projects, run for a cause, cleaning of schools, jungles and beaches and much more. PSAK has a great role in promoting games like Cricket in Korea. In this regards Pakistani scholars are invited to schools and colleges to guide the kids in the field of cricket. At the same time the members of PSAK organize and participate in cricket tournaments at university level and for the international professional players. Recently the Pakistani scholars in Yeonsi University and Hanyang University organized outstanding events of cricket in which more than 8 university players participated and had an opportunity to show their talent. The PSAK organize online lectures and consistence assistance to the young scholars on how to get scholarship opportunities in Korea and around the globe. PSA has played a great role in collecting funds for earth quake and floods victims in Pakistan .I must say the Pakistan Students Association is one of the most active and well organized bodies in the student’s communities in Korea.

Pakistan Business Association is the other pillar of Pakistan community Korea. It is one the most organized business association among the different associations of foreigners in Korea. It is established to promote and develop business and trade relations between Korea and Pakistan and they are playing a prodigious role in bringing both the nations more close through trade, import and export. Pakistani are involved in many business fields like clothing textiles, energy, power and heavy machinery. PBA arrange different kinds of events like the celebrations of Pakistan/Korea days, cultural events to promote the culture of Pakistan and also they are playing a great role in introducing Pakistani foods and leather in Korean markets. Recently they have introduced Pakistani mangos, basmati rice in the Korean markets which gain applause worth mention.  PBA has recently signed many memos with the Korean companies in the fields of construction, health, textile, heavy machinery, solar energy and car industry.  Pakistani workers are the other pillar of the community as there are more than 6000 in number working in different fields and performing their duties honestly and deliberately to promote the relations of both countries.

Almost all the Pakistanis are Muslims and they don’t eat pork and other meet other than Halal. I heard it was very difficult to found halal food 10 years before but since the halal food industry is very much promoted in Korea, the number of Muslim visitors increase every day and that is why Halal food is a growing industry in Korea. You can easily find halal meet shops and restaurants in almost every city of Korea. Being a religion independent country there are a number of mosques almost in every city of Korea where the Muslims from all the nations pray five times a day and gathers on religious gatherings, festivals and events. There is a great mosque in Itaewon where the biggest gathering of week takes place on Friday.
Pakistan Community Korea is recently trying to organize all the members of Pakistan under the umbrella of an organization namely Pakistani Community in Korea to promote better communication and understanding between the community and  government and its government departments, local authorities, other groups and individuals for the benefit of Pakistani people in South Korea. This community makes quick decisions in emergency situations like illness, deaths, charity and legal matters. This community also tries to resolve any issue among the different bodies of Pakistani community in Korea. This kind of work is highly appreciated by almost all the stack holders of the community.

Pakistani community in Korea is growing every day and there are a number of Pakistani looking towards Korea for their education, jobs and trade. It is because of the reforms made by the Korean Government for the foreigners and the acceptability and attraction of the Korean people and culture for the rest of the world. Now as the Korea will be welcoming delegations of various Asian countries and different cultures of Asia including Pakistan in the Incheon Asian games 2014. Hope this will be a hall mark for the relations of both the countries in particular and will bring harmony peace and unity in general to the diverse nature of Asia.

Itaewon Global Festival 2013 [Buzz Korea]

This article is written for the promotion of  Incheon Asian Games 2014

Itaewon is the paradise of foreigners in Korea. It can be called as the little world village in Korea. Especially on weekends you may be surprised to see that Itaewon doesn’t looks like a Korean city rather it seems like a place of mixed cultures. People from all around the globe can be seen here. It is therefore a main tourist attraction where you can find cultural stuff and foods of every nation. Itaewon global festival is arranged every year to promote the mixed culture of Itaewon and to bring harmony, peace, love and respect for every culture since 2008. It has grown to become the representative culture festival of Seoul.

The Itaewon Global Village Festival, held every fall, brings together a fun coated with Korean traditions and foreign cultures in Itaewon Special Tour Zone (Itaewon Station ~ Noksapyeong Station).  It is indeed an eccentric multicultural event where people learn about and experience different philosophies of life. A number of proceedings take place during the festival inaugurating with an opening ceremony, performances of traditional dance from home and abroad as well as the Global Food Festival which runs throughout the weekend.

2013 Itaewon Global Village Festival took place from October 12 ~13. This was a unique opportunity to experience diverse cultures in one place. The festival was free for everyone visiting Itaewon during the festival’s two-day run. Major programs included in this event were, a large-scale parade featuring each country’s national costume and traditional performances, a global food zone, a display of world institutions and customs, and hands-on activities on traditional folk games of the world.

It was a nice opportunity for me to explore the traditions & cultures of various countries, Itaewon’s foreign culture and invigorate Itaewon area and attractions during 2013 Itaewon Global Village Festival. The World Culture Festival parade was held on October 12th. This large scale parade was joined by 29 teams and over 700 people were part of this parade from Hangangjin Station to Noksapyeong Station through Itaewon for about 1.5 km. With the Military band and the honor guard of the Ministry of Defense at the head, it was a great show of traditional costumes, performances, and traditional dances. The colorful faces, amazing costumes, lively people, the enthusiasm, love and respect for each other made this day a memorable day of my life. I thought for a while that world’s peace can be promoted at its best by sharing culture, traditions, and possessions of common interest.

Like all the other countries my beloved Pakistan has also a great presentation in this international festival. All the credit goes to the Pakistan Student Association Korea. It has been second time that the students association has the privilege to represent the diverse culture of Pakistan in a bunch of world culture show. Pakistani stall was one of the busiest booths among the stalls of Itaewon global festival. The “HINA stall” was a triumph and fascination of the Pakistani booth. The beautiful and attractive HINA designs attracted girls of different nations, backgrounds and cultures towards Pakistani stall. It was already decided that the income from the booth will be donated to “Baluchistan earthquake Victims” and this was indeed a big and noble cause. People from all fields of life contributed to this worthy cause and the students from different universities in Seoul participated with their friends to make it a success.

The parade was followed by a K-POP concert around 5:00 PM. K-POP show was an amusing demonstration of the famous Korean K-POP culture and people of different countries liked it very much. The craze and interest of people could easily be seen from their faces and body languages. There were a number of traditional world performances which were beautifies by the presence of world famous artists, musicians, DJs and bands. There were a number of street performances which amused the people and got a lot of praise from the audience.
The musical artists of the Hallyu Korean cultural wave performed their songs to celebrate Itaewon Global Festival 2013.  The C&M ‘행복나눔 ì°©í•œ 콘서트’ (C&M Sharing Good Happiness Concert) was the final stage of the day. The participation, interest and enthusiasm of the visitors was worth watching. I think being overflowing with various cultural performances, exciting spectacles, delicious food, and traditional games this festival has a great role to bring harmony and unity to people living in Korea and will be having everlasting effect on the minds of people of different nations.

Itaewon Global Festival can be called as a practical implementation the Incheon Asian games motto which is “Diversity Shines here”. I think these kinds of events are the trailers of the upcoming great event in the form of Incheon Asian Games 2014, where we may be able to see the diverse cultures of Asia with their unique features.

IAG Crew 2014

It was nice evening when i received an email from the Incheon Asian games 2014 committee that i have been selected for the English blogging of IAG crew. It was indeed a matter of immense pleasure for me as representing my country in such  a big event is itself a great opportunity and I have to promote the IAG 2014 through my blogs and writings. I was really happy for that.
On October 11, 2013 we had the orientation ceremony and thus the first International crews for the Incheon Asian Games 2014 were officially appointed. I was excited to meet new friends and to work with them. It has been a long since i met new friends, so i couldn't wait for it . It was 50 minutes subway travel from my place to Incheon but i miss the subway and thus  i was late for 30 minutes. The IAG committee main office is located in one of the tallest building of Incheon near Technopark subway station.

We have a brief introduction with the officials by the in charge of our program Miss Seieun OH. She is a very nice and cooperative person with a calm and attractive personality. She presented some slides about the  Incheon Asian games and all the way its progress. All those slides were really informative and at the same time surprising that how the Incheon metropolitan government and Korea republic are involved in the preparation of IAG 2014.
We were presented with souvenirs and appointments shields by the head of PR department of IAGOC, Mr. Kim Jaein. In the coffee break I met my colleagues Kohinoor from India, Paola from Philippine, Daniel from Canada, Franky from Indonesia. All they were really interesting and enthusiastic to participate in this program. Just after the break we had an other presentation by Mr. Shin. He guide us on how to write blogs and promote the IAG 2014. Also he explain about the selection of contents and suitability of topics for blogs. Over all It was an interactive session.

We had a lavish buffet at 21st floor of the "Meet you all Tower". The look of Incheon from the top of the tower was really amazing. The clear weather and nice sun shine reflects the beauty of Incheon city. All the attractions of Incheon city were visible from sky portion of the building. The smooth and long roads show a great view from such  a height.
We had a productive group discussion after lunch in which we highlighted the role of the crews in promotion of the IAG 2014. Every participant express his/her opinion in this regards. We finalized our topics for the October and our group topic. We also have a detailed discussion, questions and answers session about the interests of the Incheon Asian Games committee and their expectations from the crews.
At the end of the day, we come up with a better understandings for our role and responsibilities. The meeting finished at 2:30 PM after 4 hours of the process and discussion. The next venue and time was also decided mutually.

Over all it was an amazing experience. I hope this opportunity will bring more pleasant experiences, chances to communicate with internationals  and occasions to express our personalities in a more proper way. I wish to be a part of further batches of the crews as well.
To be very honest I consider my self to be a lucky one for having such a great opportunity to represent myself and my country in the Incheon Asians games through my writings.

The Aliens Story [Buzz Korea]

(This story is basically a thought of my friend Ikram Khan. My role is just i have write it down with my words)

Once upon a time a traveler lost his way in a desert. He wondered here and there in search of a way to his destination but all in vain. During this struggle he became tired and thirsty. He felt like he is gonna die in a couple of hours but he did not lose his hope and tried to search.  It was getting darkness when suddenly he saw a house surround be some green trees. He became very happy and moved toward the house. It was night when he knocked at the door and asks for the shelter and food. The owner of the house seemed very kind as he provided him shelter and food. The traveler was very happy for the kindness of the house owner. As he was in search of job so he thought it would be wonderful if they offered him some job. The next day he asked the owner of the house that he can take care of his trees and can help him in maintenance of the house and in return he has to pay him some money and to give him shelter. The house keeper agreed to his statement.
The traveler was happy and was considering it a blessing of God. The house owner was also very kind and taking care of him in all respect. With the passage of time the traveler considered himself as the most important part of the family. He started thinking for his rights although the house owner were really good with him, yet he wanted some more and at the level of owner. He thought why they have so many things for themselves and less for me, in spite of this fact that I am performing more duties than them. He forget all the care of the owner that they had done to him when he came here as stranger. He tried to use different tactics to bother the owners of the house which ultimately put the owner of house in trouble.
These kinds of stories are important parts of our daily life which are told time and again to learn wisdom and common sense from it. Like this traveler we also came here to Korea, although it was not a dessert but our demands were quite similar to the traveler. And at that time Korea welcomed us with a smiling face and tried its best to create more opportunities for us. Although we came here as a visitor but we changed our visa status. Our arrival to Korea was like that traveler but with the passage of time every one of us started struggle for new facilities in the name of “Rights”. So called “Alien” were found involved in crimes like, rap, smuggling, kidnaping, money laundering, and even killing of other residents. While doing all that we forget that all the care and respect that Korea has given to us. We forget all the blessings and opportunities that Korea has created for us. In spite of being thankful to Korea we tried to find ways to justify our illegal acts and tried to escape of our responsibilities.
It is the time to bring stability in our behavior and to act as responsible citizens. It is the real time to think all those blessings and care that this nation has given to us. It is not a difficult work to perform. We don’t need to much more than,
·        To follow the rules and regulations of Korean Governments
·        To put the wastage and garbage at the right place.
·        To avoid smoking at public places.
·        To avoid doing piss in streets and in public places.
·        To give and take respect to the local people of our area.
·        To help the local government in making our streets clean.
·        To follow the rules of driving and respect the signals even if we are walking.
As all these rules and regulations are for our safety and health. So, why not to stop for a while and think?? Am I playing a role of traveler in this story???

If yes, let us change our attitudes and try to be a responsible citizen. This is how we can develop a true multicultural society.
